It was spring in Scotland during the year 2011, and the skies were often grey with intermittent weeping throughout our days. However, we did bring a delightful heat wave, which encouraged many Scots to head out of doors to enjoy a few sunny days at nearly 70 degrees fahrenheit. The country is full of intrigue and history hidden in every nook and cranny, and we took it upon ourselves to explore every corner of the country during our three-week stay. It was here that we unintentionally formed a standard for future travel—never fly across an ocean for anything less than two weeks, period.
We explored vacant beaches, wandered through castle ruins and wide open meadows, sauntered through narrow village streets and rode along winding routes with breathtaking views. New friends welcomed us into their homes with the warmest hospitality, endless cups of tea and sweets, and the most delicious shepherd’s pie. It is a trip worth repeating and definitely worth recollecting.
To Scotland, with love…
